The Challenge

Makaronia set out to create an Italian food brand that feels authentic, expressive, and instantly recognizable. The challenge was to avoid the obvious. No generic Italian clichés. No overused symbols. The brand needed to communicate heritage, place, and flavor, while remaining modern, scalable, and visually distinctive across packaging and retail touchpoints.

The Insight

Italian food is inseparable from place.

Rome, Venice, Milan, each city carries its own rhythm, character, and identity. We realized that Makaronia’s story could be told not through words, but through illustration.

The brand didn’t need one look. It needed a system of stories.

Our Approach

We developed Makaronia’s identity around three fully custom-made illustrations, each inspired by a key Italian city:

  • Rome — rich, historic, and grounded
  • Venice — romantic, fluid, and expressive
  • Milan — modern, bold, and refined

Each illustration was drawn exclusively for Makaronia, translating the spirit of the city into a visual language that feels artistic, intentional, and timeless.

These illustrations became the core of the brand not decorative elements, but storytelling devices.

The Solution

We delivered complete branding and packaging design, from logo creation to a full packaging system built around the illustrated concept.

The system allows each city illustration to stand on its own while remaining part of a cohesive brand universe making the packaging flexible, recognizable, and expandable.

Makaronia’s identity is designed to grow, adapt, and evolve without losing its narrative foundation.

VISUAL LANGUAGE & EXECUTION

The visual direction balances classic Italian inspiration with contemporary structure.

Illustrations take center stage, supported by clean typography and controlled layouts — ensuring the brand feels expressive without becoming chaotic.

Packaging becomes a canvas, allowing customers to experience Italian culture visually before tasting it.

The Impact

Makaronia launched with a distinctive identity that celebrates Italian food through art and storytelling.

The city-based illustration system positioned the brand as thoughtful, creative, and culturally rooted  creating strong shelf presence and a memorable customer experience.
